Abstract

|
Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis (BBE) is characterized by progressive ophthalmoplegia, ataxia and disturbance of consciousness. A 17 year old male was admitted due to chillnesss, diplopia when gazing to the left and headache began 2 days ago. The patient experienced abdominal pain and diarrhea 7 days ago. Ophthaloplegia, extrimities ataxia, multiple cranial nerves palsy and disturbance of consciousness were compatible to the diagnostic criteria of BBE. However, positive of Anti-GQ1b IgM antibody and rapid improvement were different from previous case reports.
